Acupuncture & Dry Needling

Acupuncture needles

What is it?

Functional Integrated Acupuncture, developed by its founder, Dr. Mark Scappaticci, is a contemporary dry needling system specifically designed for managing acute and chronic neuro-musculoskeletal injuries. It integrates the best of traditional Chinese acupuncture along with a variety of special dry needling techniques which target biomechanical and anatomical structures (muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and joints) to help treat the underlying cause of neuro-musculoskeletal conditions.

How does it work?

Based on your symptoms and a thorough exam, Dr. Taillefer will locate tissues that are tight and/or painful. He will then place fine needles through the skin to make contact with these target tissues. The needles may be left in for a few seconds to as long as 20 minutes. When needles are inserted into the target tissues, they stimulate the release of some of the body’s natural substances which help control pain (endorphins) and increase blood flow which, in turn, provides nutrients and improves fluid dynamics, resulting in improved function and healing. The needles also stimulate the central nervous system which helps decrease hyper-sensitivity and normalizes the neuro humoral changes that occur when under stress or in pain.

The benefits are, decreased muscle tension, decreased pain, improved function, and better sleep.

How long will it take to see results?

Many patients experience improvement right away; the healing time for each patient can be influenced by many variables and you will see improvement within the first few treatments. Dr. Taillefer may incorporate Functional Integrated Acupuncture along with chiropractic adjustments and other supportive therapies as part of a comprehensive approach to help restore balance, symmetry, and proper motion to your body with fewer treatments.
